Ll Chats Showing “Conversation Has Corrupted Data” – Unable to Continue Work

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Hello Cursor Support Team,

I’m currently facing a critical issue with my project chats. All of my conversations are showing the following message:

“This conversation has corrupted data. You can view and export it, but new messages cannot be sent. Please start a new conversation to continue.”

This is happening across all chats in my project, including ones that were working fine earlier. As a result, I’m unable to continue my work, and several projects are currently halfway completed.

This issue appears to be affecting every conversation, not just a single thread.

Could you please:

Investigate what caused this corruption?

Restore the affected conversations if possible?

Advise on how to prevent this from happening again?
We chose Cursor specifically for its reliability, and we depend heavily on it for our ongoing development work. We are also paying customers, so this situation is particularly concerning as it directly impacts our productivity and deadlines.

This issue appears to be affecting every conversation, not just a single thread.
This is quite urgent as it is impacting my ongoing development work.

Please let me know if you need any additional details (account email, workspace ID, logs, screenshots, etc.).

Thank you for your assistance.

Additional Information

Really disappointed as we were completed depended on Cursor but in the first month itself this happpened all the works done are been in vain

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, that’s a really unpleasant situation. A few questions so we can figure it out:

  1. Is the project on a local drive, or on a network or cloud drive (OneDrive, Google Drive, NFS)?
  2. Did Cursor update right before the restart?
  3. How much free space is left on the drive where Cursor is installed?
  4. Did you rollback from a newer Cursor version to an older one?

For now, please try:

  • Open Developer Tools (Help > Toggle Developer Tools > Console tab) and check if there are any errors related to SQLite or the database. If yes, please share a screenshot.
  • New chats should work fine. Older chats, sadly, probably can’t be recovered if the data is corrupted, but you can try exporting them.

If the project is inside a folder that’s synced by cloud storage (OneDrive, etc.), that’s a common cause of database corruption. We recommend moving the project to a normal local drive.

The team is aware of issues with chats not being saved after a restart. Let me know your answers to the questions above so we can dig deeper.

  1. Is the project on a local drive, or on a network or cloud drive (OneDrive, Google Drive, NFS)?
    Its in Local Drive

  2. Did Cursor update right before the restart?
    No

  3. How much free space is left on the drive where Cursor is installed?
    Around 200 gb available

  4. Did you rollback from a newer Cursor version to an older one?
I didnt do anything was using normally for 1 week and today morning when i turned on my pc and the cursor this issue happened

Its been only 1 month I am using cursor.

I think I cant see any sqlite errors I am sending the console page screenshot

So you mean we shouldnt be completely relied on cursor ???

This conversation has corrupted data. You can view and export it, but new messages cannot be sent. Please start a new conversation to continue.

It came again I have started using new chats but still again all my works gone.

Paying for the plan and experiencing this is very bad and I would never recommend cursor to anyone.

Thank You

We’re having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment.
