Hey Cursor team,
Cursor is already fantastic and a core part of my daily workflow, but there are a few UX improvements (in the Agents Window) that would make it truly legendary. These are all about reducing friction when working with larger projects and mixed assets.
1. Allow attaching any file type from the Composer “+” menu
Right now, the “+” icon in the Composer only lets me attach images. It would be much more powerful if I could attach any file type (text files, PDFs, logs, configs, docs, etc.) directly from that menu.
- This would make it easier to share relevant artifacts with the agent (error logs, design docs, specs) without manually opening them in the editor first.
- It also keeps conversations self‑contained: the context I use for a discussion is stored right there with the chat.
2. Support tagging entire folders/directories with @ (not just files)
Currently, @ tagging works great for individual files, but it doesn’t allow me to tag an entire directory. For larger projects, I’d love to be able to tag a folder so the agent can treat all files inside as a single context “bundle”.
- Example:
@backendcould represent the entire backend folder instead of me having to manually select multiple files each time. - This would align better with how projects are structured and reduce repetitive context selection when working across many related files.
3. Improve the agent sidebar: persistent file browser and flexible pane layout
In the agent window in the sidebar, it would be great if:
- The file browser should remain open as a dedicated pane, because clicking File opens an extra “untitled” editor tab in that small area, but I only want the file browser.
- I could split panes horizontally (or configure the layout) so I can have the terminal and file browser visible together while still interacting with the agent.
Right now, the automatic opening of files in a tiny editor area and lack of flexible splitting makes it harder to maintain an overview of the project while chatting with the agent. A more “workspace‑style” layout in the sidebar would let me:
- See the file tree and terminal at the same time.
- Quickly open files in the main editor instead of ephemeral side tabs.
- Keep the agent chat focused on reasoning while the main window handles editing.
Thanks for considering these ideas. All three are about making Cursor feel more like a seamless, multi‑pane IDE workspace where AI, files, and tools live together smoothly. I’m excited to see how Cursor continues to evolve!
