Mathematical formulas fail to render correctly in the chat interface

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In modes such as chat/agent/plan/inline chat, the mathematical formulas output by the model cannot be rendered correctly; they always appear as plain text, making it completely incomprehensible to users

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Let the model output some mathematical formulas and symbols
  2. All plain text, not rendered correctly

Expected Behavior

The formula is correctly rendered in a readable form

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. This isn’t a bug: LaTeX rendering is currently not supported in chat.

There’s a feature request for full support here:

Alright, thank you for your reply. Shouldn’t this be a basic feature? Otherwise how can these models’ mathematical reasoning abilities be leveraged?
