I’ve been using MCP servers hosted by Toolbase and everything works so well!
Through their app, I can enable and disable MCP servers dynamically but I would still need to manually click the refresh button on Cursor. I talked to the dev and he mentioned Cursor doesn’t support the notifications/tools/list_changed
notification and that is why in the meantime, I still need to click the refresh button manually.
Could we include the notification in for MCPs so I don’t need to keep refreshing
?

Thanks for bringing this up! MCP integration is still in early stages, and we’re actively working on adding more features like the notifications/tools/list_changed notification. This should help avoid manual refreshing when enabling/disabling servers
For now, you’ll need to use the refresh button as you mention!
Stay tuned for updates on this - it’s definitely on our radar
I also need to feature for the same reason. Twilio is basically useless without this.
This dynamic tool refresh is really needed. I am working on Unity-MCP server that is designed to provide tool on the fly. And the start of the MCP server there are no tools. They will be connected in a second after launch. But the update notification has zero impact because Cursor doesn’t listen it.
Please add this feature, at least temporarily if you want to build something better on top. We just need to use it right now.
In my case the “refresh” button can’t fetch the list of tools at all. Because the tools are loaded in a second after server restart. It doesn’t matter how many times the server restarts, it will be a second later. That is why the notification is critically needed.
