Memory Error IDE stop

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

My AI Cursor stopped working after several hours of use. I don’t know if it was because of a very long conversation, but I had to restart the application. It lost the history of recent projects, and the last chat window, which displays “Loading Chat,” doesn’t reopen the chat.

Steps to Reproduce

I don’t know how you can reproduce this bug, but it’s the second time it’s happened.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known issue with a corrupted database after long sessions.

Try recovering your history using this guide: Tutorial: How to Fix “Loading Chat” and Recover History

Short version:

  1. Fully close Cursor (check Task Manager).
  2. Open %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage.
  3. If you see a file like state.vscdb.corrupted.*, rename it to state.vscdb (you can move the old state.vscdb and state.vscdb.backup into an OLD folder).
  4. Launch Cursor.

For next time, export important chats via the chat menu (three dots > Export Chat). It’ll save them as Markdown.
