Microphone input selection

Where is the setting to choose which microphone is being listened to please?

Sorry, if that’s a dumb question, but voice input isn’t working for me, and I can’t find the most obvious thing to check, as I believe my system has four sound ‘inputs’ running most of the time, so the chance that cursor picked the right one is low.

Where has the mic icon gone?

Hey! Cursor doesn’t have a separate setting to choose a microphone. It uses the default input device from your OS system settings.

To pick the right microphone:

  • macOS: System Settings > Sound > Input, select the mic you want as the default device
  • Windows: Settings > System > Sound > Input, select the device you want
  • Linux: Use your distro’s sound settings

After switching the mic, try restarting Cursor.

If voice input still doesn’t work after you’ve selected the right mic, please share:

  • Your Cursor version (Help > About Cursor > Copy)
  • Your operating system
  • What happens when you click the microphone icon (nothing, an error, it records but doesn’t transcribe)
  • Any console errors (Help > Toggle Developer Tools, then click the mic and check the Console tab)

That’ll help us figure out if something else is going on.

Thanks. I realise you have too many things to work on already, but a ‘stub’ entry in the settings that says “select which mic through the OSX settings screen” might save other people from asking.
