Model selection resets to AUTO MAX on prompt submit

Describe the Bug

When I select “Opus 4.6 high thinking” as my model and press Enter to submit my prompt as I start a new agent, the model automatically switches to “AUTO MAX”. This happens consistently. Linux, latest Cursor version.

Steps to Reproduce

just try to select a model, then it’s changing the model or reselecting auto/max

Found it. Your Cursor server version is 3.1.17, with commit fce1e9ab7844f9ea35793da01e634aa7e50bce90, based on VS Code 1.105.1.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @DanSF Sorry about that. I wasn’t able to reproduce this exact bug on the same version of Cursor in Linux, however, we have other reports from users on this and we have a bug report open. I’ll let you know when we get it sorted out. In the mean time, is there any improvement if you restart Cursor? Also, are you noticing the same behavior in Agents View and IDE?

Does it go away if you toggle auto mode off and then go back to Opus 4.6? Does it keep constantly reappearing with the same symptom?
