I am using Cursor to generate product documentation particularly user guide, release notes, manuals from sources that I provide. To be able to generate almost close to manually written documents, any suggestion on which is the best model?
I have tried Composer 2.5, Claude Opus 5.5 so far. Claude Opus has given good results. But any other tried and tested suggestions would be great to know. Of course, something budget-friendly is a must.
Opus is a solid pick for this. The bigger lever is usually giving the agent a style reference, not swapping models.
On budget: Claude Sonnet 5.5 is half of Opus 5.5’s per-token price ($2 / $10 vs $4 / $20 per M tokens), so it’s the first one I’d A/B against Opus on a couple of your docs. Composer 2.5 is cheaper still at $0.50 / $2.50. Per-model prices are on the models and pricing page.
What gets output closest to hand-written:
- Keep 1-2 of your best existing docs in the repo as examples
- Add a rule like
.cursor/rules/docs-style.mdcwith your tone, structure, and terminology, and @-mention those example files in it - Have the agent draft from your sources, then run a second pass asking it to edit the draft against the rule
Rule types and setup are in the rules docs.
Point this tool at your implementation, and it will figure out what features are user facing, order their dependencies, and then write you a user guide:
