Need a way to switch to non-image models after an image is included in context

Feature request for product/service

Chat

Describe the request

Right now, if I give a model that accepts images an image as context, all non-image models can never be used in the chat thread after that.

It would be great to allow non-image models to do their job and ignore the image as context (maybe with a waning below). Less good would be a way to remove the image from the context. I think we use to have that and it was removed. I would rather not drop context though. Ignoring is better.

Ideal story: I am working with GPT-5 on a design and then wish to switch over to grok-code-fast for a few easy tasks before going back to GPT-5 for something harder.

Right now I just get an error (see screen shot). This is not in the same prompt as the image is added, it is any time down-thread.

Hey, thanks for the feature request. Yes, this is an issue because all your images are stored in the context window.

In essence, it can be solved by adding a function to forget attachments from previous requests, but that would defeat the purpose of the conversation.

As a workaround, you can duplicate the chat and ask a couple of questions there with a different model. However, you’ll need to remove all images from the context, which isn’t convenient, or you can run the /summarize function.

In any case, we’ll look into this. Thanks again.
