No auto update & Windows installer not recognized by windows?

Describe the Bug

I noticed 3.1 was released but I noticed my install didn’t auto update, and when I downloaded the 3.1.15 installer from cursor site, windows defnder didn’t seem to like it. There’s been a lot of pwning going on lately so I just want to make sure it’s good to run.

Download and run 3.1.15 installer

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. On both points:

SmartScreen warning: it’s safe, you can click Run anyway. The installer is signed by Anysphere, Inc. you can see it in the Publisher field in your screenshot. SmartScreen sometimes shows this warning for newer binaries that haven’t built up enough reputation in Microsoft’s system yet. This is a known issue and the team is aware.

Auto-update didn’t work: you’re using the system setup version, and it needs admin elevation to update since Cursor is installed in Program Files. That could be why the update didn’t run automatically. Installing the new version manually over the existing one is a working workaround.
