Hey, I noticed the same issue when loading a chat from eight months ago. It is likely related to how chats are structured over time; and I suppose chats are intended to be ephemeral for only a few months.
Checking HTTP logs with a third-party app shows no HTTP failure when fetching the interaction, and the built-in developer console does not show the chat-opening request either. I’ve observed that the app stalls a bit, and crashes only when I close the developer console.
So at this point, I don’t have a good idea on what you could try next. Someone more experienced with Cursor, or a staff member could chime in.
And, from what I have observed on multiple forum threads, chats aren’t meant for long‑term storage. SpecStory’s extension is often recommended as a way to export chats, which might help if you need to preserve them.
I can’t load any older chats including the most recent chat from right before the update. I was working, i applied the update, and then the chat that i was still in the middle in, no longer loads (nor do any other older chats).

Same issue. Cursor was showing strange AI chat symptoms. Connections to llm interrupted constantly. Reopened cursor, for some unknown reason, it asked me to log an setup cursor from scratch like If I just installed from zero.
Wanted to continue my chat since cursor couldn’t finish modifying my code and now i have incomplete implementations.
Selected the chat I was working with > Won’t load it.
