On demand usage limit even when using my own API keys

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I recently reached the on demand limit set by my organization:
“You have reached your usage limit
Request higher limits to continue using Cursor”

So I switched to using my own API keys. But I still keep getting this limit reached message, even with my own keys (tried OpenAI as well Anthropic keys).

Steps to Reproduce

Use Cursor enough to reach the on demand limit. The turn on API keys in “Cursor Settings > Models > API Keys”. Restart Cursor. Use Cursor and observe you still get the limit reached message.

Expected Behavior

I should be able to use my own API keys after reaching Cursor’s on demand usage limit.

Operating System

Hey, thanks for the report. I’d recommend reaching out to your team’s Cursor admin, since Team plans often have features like custom API keys disabled.

Getting this too. API key used to work and now it doesn’t after reaching team limit.

Why not offer a package that only uses APIs?

I confirmed that API keys are not disabled in my team’s plan. The issue is that custom API key usage is being counted towards Cursor’s on demand usage limit.

Any update on this or when this might be fixed? I’m getting close to hitting the on demand limit for this month even with my own API key.

Any news on this ?
