⌥ (Option) and other shortcuts ignored in AI Panel for International keyboard layouts

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

In the Cursor AI Panel, after updating to the new UI, the shortcut for @ on the Czech keyboard (⌥2) doesn’t work, nor does the one for ` (⌥1) – basically nothing where I need to use the ⌥ + something shortcut. It completely ignores these shortcuts and I have to click with the mouse on the shortcuts in the bottom right corner of the input – for example, on the @ icon.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Cursor AI with the new UI update
  2. Set system keyboard to Czech (QWERTY) layout
  3. Open the AI Panel/Chat input field
  4. Try to use the keyboard shortcut ⌥2 to insert @ symbol or ⌥1 to insert ` symbol

Observe that nothing happens when using these Option/Alt-based shortcuts

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. It looks like a regression in the new AI Panel UI with international keyboard layouts and Option/Alt key combinations.

I’ll pass this to the team. As a temporary workaround, you can use the mouse to click @ and the icons in the bottom-right of the input field.

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

After updating to Cursor 2.0, I’ve been experiencing an issue with adding context in the chat using the @ keybind (Option + 2 on macOS). The shortcut works everywhere else in the IDE, but it no longer triggers or inputs the @ symbol inside the Cursor chat window.

Steps to Reproduce

1.	Open Cursor (version 2.0.22) on macOS.
2.	Go to the Chat window.
3.	Try to type @ using Option + 2 on a Swedish keyboard layout.
4.	Notice that the @ symbol does not appear and no context menu opens.
5.	Test the same keybind elsewhere in the IDE (e.g., editor or terminal) — it works normally there.

Expected Behavior

When pressing @ (Option + 2 on macOS) in the Cursor chat window, it should insert the “@” symbol or open the context menu for adding files, code, or messages, just like it does in the rest of the IDE.

I have this same issue, and I also have Swedish keyboard layout.

It’s impossible to type @ in the chat (in fact, all Option + Number characters are unwriteable).

This is very annoying bug. I’ve had to copy-paste @ into the chat. But now I fixed it by making a Keyboard Maestro macro that pastes @ instead of typing it. Please fix!

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I cannot put any of the critical symbols like "{ ] } [ " etc in the text box anymore! I got the Cursor update, pressed “Update”, Cursor automatically reopened and can no longer press/create these vital symbols!

(Also, I used to love Cursor’s easily scrollable “thinking box” part. That seems to have disappeared. The scroll bar is gone and when I try to go up and down, the entire chat goes up and down, rather than just the thinking box part. This isn’t a bug exactly -though it might be- but I just wanted to complain haha). The vital symbols do prevent me from working though; I cannot write code or syntax in the chat box anymore!

Steps to Reproduce

Macbook M1 Air. Q Keyboard (Turkish). All the symbols that I’m typing here, (e.g. ][{ etc) do not work.

Expected Behavior

Should work like it did 5 minutes ago before I loaded the update.

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Since 2.0 update, I cannot type “@” in the agent text area. I have an AZERTY keyboard, so the command for @ is “Option + 0” on a Mac.

I checked, it seems to be bound to some composer shortcut. The same applies to other keys of my keyboard, using “Option + [digit]”.

I know I can change the shortcut to something else, but I feel like this is a bug, like setting up new shortcuts without taking into account all keyboard layouts (AZERTY not being some obscure layout).

A chat without @ is pretty broken, since this is to add context.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use an AZERTY layout on a Mac [Edit: it’s not the Mac keyboard, but an external, classical AZERTY keyboard. The Mac keyboard does not have these Option + digit keys, but all other normal keyboards do]
  2. Open a new chat with Cursor
  3. Try to type @, or [

Expected Behavior

I expect to not have “Option + [digit]” shortcuts set up that override normal keys.
