Persistent Chats

Hey there,

First of all even though this is a Feedback/Feature Request I would consider my probs as a Bug Request.

I’ve been using like 2.5k paid premium model calls monthly to Claude 3.5 during the last 6 months, doing node, python, react BE/FE all mixed, so I consider myself as a heavy user. You heavily do brutal updates, basically force people into updating because Cursor is crashing all the time if you see “Update available” but not updating on purpose in order to not lose the current chat that I have trained for the last week. I understand that you do so to quickly release and get your product more advanced. Not complaining about that, it goes into the right direction. But what I really hate is losing a chat, all of a sudden it is dead and you are forced into a new one, or you write recently “Create a new Chat for better results”, then, assuming you put all of the trained stuff of the last 7 days into the new starting reference doc for the new chat and when doing so this starting doc is just 3 small paragraphs where you immediately know you have to start from scratch.

Honestly today after creating the 7th chat this week, re-assigning all the relevant files, explaining stuff and so on I was searching the first time in the last 6 months for a direct Visual Studio - LLM (persistent chat) integration, but seeing the other stuff I have to admit that I’m meanwhile really used to Cursor. I would pay extra if you could provide a persistent LLM chat. The new things like scanning whole folders can’t replace a LLM chat that has been trained file by file in detail. Again, I would pay extra for such a “persistent Chat” feature.

Also in “Previous Chats” it is only showing the last 3 chats, when i click on “Search” the form is not responsive and stalls, so all chats which are not in the last 3 are lost forever. When a chat stalls you can only “Create new Chat” which automatically creates an empty new one and pushes the previous ones out of availability - lost forever.

I usually create the chat as a tab and move it into a blank window, maybe some probs also arise on an UI level from here.

Anyway I love to work with your tool, accept all the drastic force updates for good, but I would really need a “perpetual private trained brain” to build on that i can rely for a project’s duration. This sudden loss of a trained chat stresses me most.

All the best,
Chris
