Please bring back the Notepads

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

As I have updated to a newer version of Cursor, my Notepads disappeared and I had to frantically download the last version that still had it. It is a feature that wins Cursor for me over other similar IDEs. A separate Notepad-only space, with no need to create a file within the project tree, that is also not recognised by git.

I would love to try out Cursor 2.0 features but it won’t be possible for me as giving up Notepads will drastically reduce my satisfaction of using this app.

Please bring Notepads back, not for the sake of “agent management” but for the sake of those of us who love having project notes directly where the project is, and not on Notion or elsewhere.

Operating System (if it applies)

Windows 10/11

I have moved my notepads to commands in Cursor 2.0. It works fine.

Thanks, I’ll look into it!

Does tagging other files in the directory within the commands markdown file work for you?

I liked having Notepads because it is in a separate place in the UI and not commited to the repo by default, and it was very useful in cross-referencing everything.

You can use the user command that will save to ~/.cursor/commands.

notepads were also used for one shot, well structured, context rich prompting with @, not just for reusable workflows.

that is they were used as a rich editing prompting area, which is not provided anymore.
