Premium Request

DeepSeek R1 and Other Models Consuming Premium Requests Without Clear Pricing Disclosure

:white_check_mark: Check the forum: I’ve reviewed the forum briefly and didn’t find an exact match for this issue, though there are discussions about DeepSeek R1 and premium model usage. This seems like a new observation.

:lady_beetle: Description of the bug: Previously, when I used the DeepSeek R1 model in Cursor, it didn’t consume my premium model requests. Now, it deducts from my premium request quota, suggesting it’s been reclassified as a premium model. Additionally, other models like DeepSeek V3 are also consuming premium requests. However, the Cursor website’s pricing page doesn’t explicitly mention R1, V3, or other affected models as premium, leading to confusion about their status.

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: How to reproduce the bug:

  1. Open Cursor and ensure DeepSeek R1 or DeepSeek V3 is enabled in Settings > Models.
  2. Use either model in a chat or composer session (e.g., ask “What is 2+2?”).
  3. Check your usage stats (e.g., via the account or usage dashboard).
  4. Observe that the premium request count increases after using DeepSeek R1 or V3, whereas R1 didn’t consume premium requests before, and V3’s behavior is unexpected.

:camera: Screenshots or recordings: I don’t have screenshots yet, but I can provide them if needed. Imagine the usage dashboard showing a premium request count incrementing after queries with DeepSeek R1 and V3, while the pricing page lacks mention of these models.

:laptop: Operating System and Cursor Version:

  • Operating System: [Please fill in, e.g., Windows 11, macOS Ventura, etc.]
  • Cursor Version: [Please fill in, e.g., 0.45.2 – check Help > About in Cursor]

:prohibited: Impact on Usage: This doesn’t stop me from using Cursor entirely, but it affects my workflow. If DeepSeek R1, V3, and potentially other models are now premium, it limits my usage under my current plan, especially since this isn’t clearly documented.

Additional Observation:
On the Cursor website’s pricing page (as of March 06, 2025), there’s no mention of DeepSeek R1, DeepSeek V3, or other models that seem to be consuming premium requests. This lack of transparency makes it unclear which models are premium and which aren’t, unlike explicitly listed models (e.g., GPT-4, Claude).

Questions to Cursor Team:

  1. Have you changed DeepSeek R1 to a premium model? It’s now taking premium requests when it didn’t used to.
  2. Why are other models like DeepSeek V3 also consuming premium requests?
  3. Can you update the pricing page to clarify which models (e.g., R1, V3) are premium, so users can plan accordingly? Thanks!

Hey, you can check the pricing here:

So Deepseek R1 will get counted as fast request?

Yes, DeepSeek R1 is a premium model, while DeepSeek V3 is free.

Sadly, Cursor pricing killed R1 in Cursor. Haiku 3.5 costs 1/3 of premium use, while R1 in API is cheaper than Haiku, yet costs in Cursor full use… :man_shrugging:
