Projects not allowing hand-off to local

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

The Projects announcement says you can start a project, and it will start in the cloud but handoff to local whenever you want. I asked my agent to let me test its branch on my machine, and it consistently responds “Still blocked from switching git on your Mac from this Project chat — the local attach fails, and terminals here are this cloud workspace, not yours.”

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start a Project
  2. Have the agent check out a branch
  3. Instruct the agent to hand off to local

Expected Behavior

  1. Local handoff works

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Same problem. It worked yesterday but now it doesn’t. The top-level agent says it gets this error when trying to start a local agent: “Error creating agent: Tool failed; this may be temporary. Try again.”

Hey @Michael_Flores, thanks for the detailed report.

Your Project could see your machines and did try to start a local agent. Each attempt was stopped before reaching your Mac because Remote Control is not enabled for your Cursor team. The “local attach fails” response is misleading and should have explained the team setting instead. This is an issue we’re tracking.

Since you’re a team member, an admin will need to:

  1. Open Cursor Dashboard > Cloud Agents > Self-Hosted.
  2. Enable Remote Control for the team.
  3. On your Mac, confirm Remote Control is enabled under Settings > Agents.
  4. Ask the Project to try the local handoff again.

The setup requirements are documented here: Cursor for iOS | Cursor Docs

As a workaround, ask the cloud agent to push its branch, then check it out from your local repository:

git fetch && git switch feat/YOUR_BRANCH_NAME

oh this is good to know, I’ll ask an admin to do that. thank you @kevinn!
