Proposal: Allow Unused Monthly Quotas to Roll Over

Hey Cursor team & fellow devs!

I’ve got an idea to make the pricing feel a bit more fair - what if unused monthly credits rolled over?

Right now it kinda ■■■■■ when you have a light month (maybe you were on vacation or focused on non-coding work) and those paid credits just disappear. Would be awesome if we could:

  • Keep unused credits for say, 1-3 months
  • Maybe with a cap (like max 2x your normal monthly amount)

This way:
:white_check_mark: No stress about “wasting” credits in slow months
:white_check_mark: More flexibility for real-world dev workflows (we don’t code at exactly the same intensity every month!)
:white_check_mark: Makes the subscription feel more valuable

it could be a cool way for Cursor to stand out. What do you all think?

Support publishers, your suggestion is very creative. I suggest the development team consider it.

This only applies to legacy pricing, right? I think the choice to go back to it was just a shoe-in after the outcry. I bet if it was up to Cursor, legacy pricing wouldn’t exist anymore and in that case, they’re preserving subscribed+inactive user profit margins.

If they did end up applying this to legacy pricing, there would be an exodus of customers trying to opt-out and Cursor’s opening a door for profits to go down further.

The intended usage model should either allow full usage flexibility, or users should be given the right to transfer or sell their remaining tokens. For example, if you’re going on vacation and won’t use your remaining credits, you should be able to sell them on a platform in exchange for money. This would create a marketplace where everyone benefits, you wouldn’t make a profit, but at least your money wouldn’t go to waste.
