Python testing explorer does not work on cursor

I have seem some issues about installing microsoft’s python extension on cursor. But right now none of the proposed solutions is working.

The extensions marketplace does not allow any version newer than 2024.12.3 (which doesn’t work properly), so I tried both

  • installing in vscode and then move files to .cursor dir
  • manually installing from .vsix file.

On both methods the installation works but when I open cursor it fastly deprecates the installed version and automatically installs the older one (2024.12.3).

Is microsoft really adding some hacks to break their extensions on cursor?
For real, this is a very bad experience. I have to keep vscode downloaded just to run tests on it.
