Question about Custom API Keys and Usage Limits

I want to seek clarification on a matter regarding the use of Custom API Keys and usage limits.

I understand that Cursor offers the option to use Custom API Keys. My question is specifically about how this interacts with the usage limits on the Hobby (free) plan:

If I configure Custom API Keys for my Cursor account, but I’m not subscribed to either the Pro or Business version, will my code completions still be subject to the Hobby plan limitations of 2000 completions and 50 slow premium requests per month?

I’m particularly interested in understanding:

  • Whether using my own API key bypasses these limits entirely.
  • If not, how the usage is tracked and limited when using a custom API key.
  • Are there any differences in functionality or limitations when using a custom API key on the Hobby plan compared to the standard setup?
