Question about the future of request‑based access for flagship models

I have a question regarding the future of request‑based access and how it relates to flagship models.

We understand that for current flagship models, request‑based users are now required to use MAX mode, and that this change primarily affects legacy users. I’m simply trying to understand how this policy might evolve over time.

For example, when a new flagship model such as GPT5.5 is released, would the previous flagship (e.g., GPT5.4) remain locked behind MAX mode, or would it be reclassified as a non‑flagship model and become accessible again via the standard request‑based mode for legacy users?

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Zr93,

Thanks for your question!

At this time, there are no plans to change the Max Mode requirement for models that currently require it under legacy request-based pricing.
