Regression: Auto code apply no longer works since 0.49.7 with OpenAI proxy (no tools)

Hi,

I’m using Cursor with an OpenAI proxy (which doesn’t support tools). Up until version 0.47.9, everything worked perfectly — the generated code was applied automatically.

Since version 0.49.7, I have to manually click “Apply to…” every time, which is really annoying and pushed me to revert back to 0.47.9.

I’ve tested all versions released since, but none of them fix the issue.

Could you please address this? It used to work flawlessly before.

Thanks!

Hi , UP

Hey, versions older than v1.0 are not being updated and therefore will not receive bug fixes. Note that there were several changes on the Edit tool and the Apply model as well which is why it may likely not be compatible anymore with older versions.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply.

Just to clarify, it’s not just version 0.49.7 that’s affected — all versions since 0.49.7 are broken for me (and others) when using an OpenAI proxy without tools. Before that version, auto-apply worked fine.

Is there any workaround or fix you can suggest? At the moment, we’re stuck without this functionality, which is pretty frustrating.

If there’s no fix, would you recommend sticking to an older version, or is there another way to get auto-apply working with the current setup?

Thanks again for your help!

Ah right, that was my misunderstanding for the Apply button.

Which mode are you using to run the OpenAI proxy models?

Hey

I’ve tested using the OpenAI proxy in Agent mode, Manual mode, and also tried with some custom modes, but unfortunately, the auto-apply feature still doesn’t work.

Thank you for trying this, really appreciate it.

So in general the Manual Mode for example doesnt auto-apply.
Auto apply would mostly be Agent with Auto-run mode, but that requires OpenAI models for example.

Other combinations give user the choice which changes to apply, hence manual.

Though, to make sure I’m not overseeing a detail, could you please try Agent with the OpenAI proxy and disable for that request the privacy mode, then turn it back on after you get the Request ID. It would allow the Cursor Team to check what happens within the internal parts.

Note that support for older Cursor versions is limited and being step by step phased out as new versions launch, since the Edit model, API etc are having new features which may create issues on older versions.

Hey, thanks for the explanation.

I tried Agent mode with the OpenAI proxy, disabled the privacy mode for that request, and got the following Request ID:

83889754-7961-4f6f-a730-585303079aee

Hope that helps! Let me know if you need any further information.

Thank you for the request ID, I will escalate this to the Cursor Team for checking.

Hi there!

Just following up on this issue: has there been any update regarding the auto-apply feature no longer working since v0.49.7 when using an OpenAI proxy without tools enabled?

It used to work perfectly before, and I’m wondering if a fix is planned or if there’s any progress on this.

Thanks in advance! :folded_hands:

@deanrie could you please check if this is a documented change?

Hey, could you download the latest version and check if the issue persists?

Ah, sorry, I didn’t see that you already tried this.

Unfortunately, something might have changed here, but I can’t say for sure. Maybe Dan can clarify this.

Thanks for the reply!
I just ran another test using a different OpenAI-compatible proxy (still without tools enabled), and unfortunately the issue persists.

Here’s the new request ID for reference:

Would be great if @danperks could confirm whether this is an intentional change or a regression from previous versions.

Thanks again for the support!
