Remote - Tunnel not available anymore

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Remote Tunnel extension is not available anymore, whether when looking at the marketplace, or when trying to connect directly and click Tunnel, it tries to install it and I get “The extension ‘ms-vscode.remote-server’ cannot be installed because it was not found.”. I tried reinstalling Cursor to no avail. I tried installing the extension on VS Code, then importing VS code extensions, and that fails too.

Steps to Reproduce

Install cursor
Try to connect through Tunnel
Try install Remote - Tunnel extension

Expected Behavior

Connection through tunnel fails
Remote - Tunnel extension is not available on the marketplace

I am on MacOS, but my colleagues on Linux and Windows have the same issue.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report.

It seems “Remote - Tunnels” ms-vscode.remote-server is currently unavailable in the Cursor marketplace. We use Open VSX and do additional verification, so some VS Code extensions might not be available: Extensions | Cursor Docs

Try installing our Anysphere Remote SSH extension: anysphere.remote-ssh

Thank you for your quick reply. Remote-SSH doesn’t allow to use Tunnels, right? If it does, can you show us how? What do we connect with our local cursor once we get the tunnel name on the VM?

We do not support remote tunnels natively. We recommend using the Anysphere Remote SSH plugin instead.

If your machine does not have inbound SSH access (i.e. is behind NAT), you can use a forwarder service like Pinggy to expose your remote machine over SSH, which can then be reached via our Remote SSH extension.

Similarly, Remote - Tunnel was working for me until ~week ago, and now stopped, not able to start tunnel to a new dev pod .

I tried a WAR suggested to import from VSCode, and that no longer works with this error:
Unable to import 6 extensions: ms-vscode.remote-explorer, ms-vscode.cpptools-extension-pack, ms-vscode-remote.vscode-remote-extensionpack, ms-vscode.remote-server, ms-vscode-remote.remote-wsl, ms-toolsai.jupyter. Only extensions that are available in the Cursor Marketplace can be imported.

The Lepton cluster I’m trying to access supports Teleport with some hoops, but otherwise Remote - Tunnel via Github was simpler to setup in new pods .

Cursor error shows `Remote - Tunnels` not found on marketplace , when try to install to refresh an older remote .
