You can already rename a workspace in the Agents Window. Right-click the workspace’s header in the sidebar, choose Edit Workspace, change the Name field, and click Save. For a single-folder project the dialog is titled “Add Folders”, but the Name field works the same way: Cursor saves a named workspace for that folder and moves its chats under the new name. Nothing on disk is renamed.
If the new name doesn’t show while the sidebar is grouped by repository, switch the grouping to workspaces. That view uses the workspace name.
A custom folder icon or color for a workspace isn’t available today. Icons and colors can only be set on individual chats (right-click a chat, then Edit Icon), and right now that only sticks on cloud chats, as covered in this thread. Grouping and coloring related projects is also being discussed in this request, so adding your vote there helps.
This must be recent because I was not able to change the name just a week ago under windows.
Yeah sorting be repositories did strange things. My renamed project is now in double: the new name with no chat in it, and the new name + “.code-workspace” with all the chats in it. If I try to remove one from the list, both disappear.
Anyway, the workspace view does the job very well.
For the chat icon/color I tried last week, and just now (3.26.16) but it does not work. (Under linux.)
No icon
No color
Right now I have a skill to tell the agent to rename the chant with a check mark on it when I am done.
Thanks for testing that and for the details, glad the workspace view does the job.
The duplicate you’re seeing when grouped by repository (one entry with the new name and no chats, another with the new name plus ‘.code-workspace’ holding all the chats, and both disappearing when you remove one) isn’t expected. I’ve passed it along to the team. Sticking with the workspace grouping is the way to go for now.
Thanks also for confirming that Edit Icon still doesn’t apply the icon or color on 3.26.16 on Linux. I’ve added that to the report in this thread. Your skill that marks finished chats with a check mark is a nice workaround in the meantime.
