Search codebase tool uses weird string

Describe the Bug

Since the last update, the search tool inside the chat searches using web search keywords.
Instead of searching a symbol or file name, it often writes questions like “Where are toast notifications used in the frontend components?”

Steps to Reproduce

Ask Cursor to search in the codebase.

Expected Behavior

It should search for symbols, text content or files.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hi @willalou and welcome to Cursor Forum

Could you please clarify if this causes the Agent to not work correctly?

The search may be a perfectly valid search, depending on your codebase.

There were also internal improvements which is why such queries can work well.

Thanks for the reply @T1000.

These queries always return “No results found” as you can see in the image.

I will share with you other results when the tool fires.

Thank you, I forwarded it to Cursor Team but likely a Request ID will be required to check what went wrong. Please post it if you encounter this issue again.
