Search opens in explorer on any key

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Pressing any key triggers the search input, even when a keybinding is explicitly assigned to another command.

{
“key”: “a”,
“command”: “explorer.newFile”,
“when”: “filesExplorerFocus && !inputFocus”
},
{
“key”: “shift+a”,
“command”: “explorer.newFolder”,
“when”: “filesExplorerFocus && !inputFocus”
}

Despite these bindings, any key press still opens the search bar, making it impossible to use custom Explorer shortcuts. It seems like the built-in “search on type” handler is overriding all keybindings, even with correct when conditions.

Steps to Reproduce

Add the keybindings above.

Focus the file explorer.

Press A, Shift+A, or even other random keys.

Instead of creating a file/folder, Cursor opens the global search input.

Expected Behavior

When the Explorer has focus and inputFocus is false, my custom keybindings should work

Some more discussion in this duplicate here: Option to disable "Type to Search" / Filter in Explorer pane (Revert to simple highlight)

This broke a lot of workflows for users of vim keybindings

For anyone else, found that I could downgrade to version 2.1 here: Download · Cursor
