When I was using extensions from the right-hand sidebar in Cursor, I started seeing the following error.

Secondary Sidebar not supported in this version of VSCode. Please update your VSCode to use. Opening in Activity Bar instead.

Steps to Reproduce

Using the Claude Code extension, run the insert command via a keyboard shortcut.

Operating System

MacOS

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

Version: 2.3.35
VSCode Version: 1.105.1

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known compatibility issue. Some extensions use the Secondary Sidebar API, which works a bit differently in Cursor compared to vanilla VS Code.

As the error message says, Claude Code is automatically opening in the Activity Bar instead of the secondary sidebar. The extension should still work, just in a different place.

Can you confirm that Claude Code works fine through the Activity Bar? Or are you seeing any issues with the functionality itself?

The team is working on improving VS Code extension compatibility, so Secondary Sidebar support should get better in future versions.

As of now, I can’t see anything within the Claude code sidebar extension.
And after a restart, the extension is gone.

It’d be great to fix this. The VSCode model where the secondary sidebar allows docking various agentic extensions is great – it lets me try out a few alternatives when necessary. Extensions that dock by default to the secondary sidebar shouldn’t break like they do now. Please do make this work similarly to VSCode!
