Claude Code extension no longer appears in the right sidebar after Cursor 3.15.6 update

Hi,

After updating to Cursor 3.15.6, the layout/behavior of the Claude Code extension changed for me.

Before the update, Claude Code appeared as a tab alongside Cursor’s Chat/Agent tabs in the right-side panel, so I could easily switch between Cursor and Claude without taking up an editor group.

After updating to 3.15.6, Claude Code now opens as an editor tab in the main editor area, while Cursor’s Agent remains in the new Agents Window on the right.

I’ve tried:

  • View: Move Editor into Right Group
  • Dragging the Claude Code tab toward the right side
  • Reloading the window

But Claude Code cannot be moved into the Agents Window/right panel.

Is this an intentional change in 3.15.6, or is it a regression? Is there any setting/workaround to restore the previous behavior where Claude Code could appear alongside Cursor’s Agent/Chat tabs in the right panel?

Yep, an annoying problem with Cursor… please enable this as should be a simple option in Settings:
e.g. Sidebar (Right)

Even with sidebar option, this still doesn’t work for me…
Once again, this feels like predatory behaviour from Cursor and it’s sad to see them go this route for an extra dollar.

I just rolled back to version 3.14.27 and disabled the automatic update option for the first time. Looks like I’ll be stuck on the older version, which is really important to me.

Same happened to me, found a way around it tho.

When opening claude code by default now it opens as a collapsible in the files tab, drag that collapsible header onto the left sidebar, then right click it and move to > secondary side panel.

Does rolling back affect your previous chat conversations/history?

Same here. So damn annoying. I spent a couple of hours trying to workaround it but to no avail.
I see a similar post on Reddit.

Found a fix — posting in case it helps anyone else.

You can still get the extension back into the secondary side bar; it just can’t be done by dragging anymore. Use the command palette instead:

  1. Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P
  2. Run “View: Move View”
  3. Pick the extension’s view (in my case “Claude Code”)
  4. Choose “Secondary Side Bar Entry” as the destination

It docks right back where it used to be, next to the Cursor Agent panel.

Not entirely. Even after you do those steps, if i click on New Session or an existing session, it will still open Claude Code under Editor.

But in my case, it’s fixed. Even if I close and reopen Cursor, the Claude tab stays beside the Cursor tab.

Make sure you clicked “Secondary Side Bar Entry”.

All the history and old chats were preserved. But I didn’t delete the latest version; I simply downloaded the previous version’s installer from GitHub and installed it over it..

Good on you. I’m using a Mac so maybe there’s a difference in behavior. I’ve reverted to the previous version I.e 3.14.x and it works there.
