Severe Performance Issues – High CPU & Memory Usage

Describe the Bug

I’ve been experiencing severe performance issues with Cursor over the past couple of weeks.

The tool has become a significant memory and CPU hog, regularly consuming close to 3GB of memory and 60% or more CPU, even when running in the background. I’ve noticed multiple NodeJS and other sessions running in parallel, which seems to contribute to the high resource usage.

I’ve tried restarting my system multiple times, thinking it might be a local issue. However, I’m on a 300 Mbps internet connection, and nothing else on my system behaves this way. The overall experience has become increasingly frustrating and disruptive to my workflow.

Is this a known bug or is such behavior expected when Agent mode is enabled?

Would appreciate any insights or fixes from the team or community.

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

@smrtinker thanks for the detailed bug report.

Could you post in such cases the list of processes in Cursor as screenshot?

Help > Open Process Explorer

Please add more details so the cause can be narrowed down

  • Are you using WSL?
  • You pointed to multiple NodeJS processes, are those necessary or can they be stopped? NodeJS may consume resources depending on what it is doing.
