It’s a little bit off for me to type a long message in composer and hit enter by error and trigger the AI. I want to complete the whole context message before hitting triggering the submit and I think this would be a great idea.
Agree 100% … I know that facebook started the “Enter key means submit message” in 2008 and it sort of makes sense for when you in a chat app writing oneliners … but it’s terrible in an editor where you are using the Enter key for newlines in one window, then jumping to the other window and using the Shift+Enter for newlines. Totally backwards!
PLEASE CURSOR leave the Enter key for it’s god-given purpose in life of making newlines and dedicate sending to Shift+Enter. Facebook did the world a grave injustice, you can make it right. Continue.dev got this right, but Cursor is better.
Yes, I often do this subconsciously as well, and it really should be modified
100 % agree with all this, I can’t believe there isn’t even a way to configure this
for example in Zed they have it the way we want - Enter = newline and Cmd+Enter = submit.
it should be trivial to at least expose this as a config option
While this is great feedback and may be something we implement in the future, for now if you accidentally hit enter you should be able to cancel it by doing control backspace which should let you continue editing from where you left off!
Hi Cursor dev team. Just small reminder about fixing this extremely annoying issue with submitting with Enter instead of Cmd+Enter or whatever other shortcut you will set. Just please not the Enter key. The frustration escalated and I almost destroyed my screen with a punch of despair
This continues to be a problem. All of the text interfaces that I deal with daily (email, GH, even Slack), have this as an option. It’s very odd behavior since this is built on VSCode, and much of VSCode’s behavior also submits with cmd-enter, not enter. For example, the VCS commit box takes newlines just fine.
Your own forum, right here, as I’m writing this reply, uses cmd-enter to submit my text.
this would be a great win, imo. just a really simple add, don’t force it to be mandatory or anything, just an option for people. can’t tell you how annoying it is when you’re mid-prompt and suddenly it just sends it, and you have to undo. just disrupts the flow
yes, i’m aware of how I sound, but i swear it feels even worse :')
