"Submit with CMD+Enter" blocked by "Try Plan Mode" suggestion

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I love “Submit with CMD+Enter”. I am its biggest fan.

I usually always want to start in Plan or Ask mode.

But somewhere near-ish the same update, I’ve been seeing an additional option appear near the bottom right of the chat box labeled “Try Plan Mode” (with a key combo “Shfit+Tab” shown in the same button/pill).

I do not need to switch modes.

When I press CMD+Enter, my chat is not submitted. But I notice the suggestion disappears/is dismissed.

Then I have to press CMD+Enter again, to submit my chat content.

Steps to Reproduce

  • Enable “Submit with CMD+Enter”, the feature you’ve been asking for for months.
  • Open a new chat.
  • Switch to ask mode.
  • Type a question like:
how do I squash these last two commits together into one?

  • Notice the “Try Plan Mode” suggestion appear … ? :man_shrugging:
  • Use the “CMD+Enter” key combo.

(“Try…” pill dismisses here, but my chat is not yet sent. Takes a second time.)

Expected Behavior

CMD+Enter submits chat content when “Submit with CMD+Enter” is enabled.

Similar behavior as reported at https://forum.cursor.com/t/submit-with-cmd-enter-switches-to-plan-mode/153677/7

Hey, this is a known bug. You found the right thread, it’s the same issue: Submit with Cmd+Enter switches to Plan mode

The team is aware of it. For now, the workaround is to press Cmd+Enter twice, or dismiss the suggestion with Shift+Tab first, then submit.

Your report helps with prioritization, thanks for the detailed write-up.

thanks!

Hey, guys,

This behaviour is extremely annoying. When are you going to fix it? It should be one prompt with Cursor, assuming you are using your own product, of course .

Hey @_tg, @Miroslav_Nedyalkov!

The CMD+Enter submit issue has been addressed in a recent Cursor update. Updating to the latest version should resolve this.
