Suggestion Regarding the Removal of Portable Mode and Lack of Version Transparency

Dear Development Team,

I’ve noticed that starting with version 0.45.17, the software no longer seems to read user data from the data folder in the installation directory. As a software built on VSCode, this portable mode functionality was previously a default feature and one that users like me relied upon for convenience. However, it now appears to have been intentionally disabled. After reviewing available information, I suspect this was a deliberate decision by your team, and I’m genuinely puzzled as to why such a change was made. This alteration not only reduces the software’s flexibility but also negatively impacts the experience of users who depended on portable mode.

Furthermore, I’ve observed that there’s room for improvement in how you manage and communicate version details. For instance, your official website does not provide full version numbers or corresponding hash values for the software. This omission creates inconvenience for users of package managers like Homebrew, Scoop, or Winget. Given that your software benefits greatly from the open-source community, this lack of transparency feels inconsistent and disappointing.

As a paying user, I sincerely hope you’ll reconsider re-enabling support for portable mode and provide more detailed release information (such as hash values and complete version numbers) to enhance the user experience and demonstrate respect for the community. I look forward to your response and any potential improvements!

Thank you!
