Support for OTel integration

Hello, I’m not sure if this is already supported, but I’m wondering if there’s first-party support for OpenTelemetry integration built into Cursor CLI/Cloude/IDE, similar to Monitoring - Claude Code Docs ? A quick search shows several third-party solutions, but they all rely on hooks that aren’t supported in Cloud Agents.

Hi @kkchau Thanks for the post! This is something that’s been on our radar for a while, but it has never made it out of the backlog. do you mind explaining a bit more as to how it’s important and what it can help you and other Cursor users do? This may allow us to better prioritize and get a sense of how it can help users.

Cost/Token consumption, tool usage or adoption, how/where skills get used.
If we deploy something org or team wide how do we measure tool activation, whether a tool change increased or decreased token usage / time taken to get an outcome.

Without this using different harnesses (claude code) or building in-house makes a lot more sense than encouraging more use of cursor.

Glad to hear this is already something being tracked! This would be really helpful for us as we build out support for our development teams’ usage of Cursor; having this integration allows us to easily track metrics like model usage and preferences, token/caching, hooks/events, etc. in our already-mature observability tooling.

It would definitely be very useful to have better control over token costs when using different tools, skills, instructions, MCPs, and workflows. VS Code has implemented this, and it allows me to measure usage and make better decisions.

+1 to this, it would be great to see some/all metrics exposed by providers such as Anthropic/OpenAI forwarded via Cursor and tracked.

+1 This is critical in enabling centralised organizational usage metrics used to justify token expense. Better metrics and visibility around tools usage, agent usage, skills usage allows developer tooling teams to optimize and operate at scale. It also plays a critical role, in day 1 plugin development and day2 operational monitoring of end user behaviour and ongoing optimisation (tool error rate tracking).

+1, it would be great to track usage of each particular session (like Claude Code’s OTEL)

+1 Yes! This would be an incredible addition
