Sync or export/import Agent chat history across devices

I use Cursor on more than one computer. When I open the same project on a different machine, the Agents list (chat history in the sidebar) is empty. The transcript files are stored in the workspace under .cursor/projects/…/agent-transcripts/, but the list of chats that appears in the UI seems to live only on each machine locally, so it doesn’t follow the project.

Request:

Please add one of the following (or both):

  1. Sync the Agent list with the workspace

When opening a workspace, scan agent-transcripts (or equivalent) and show those conversations in the Agents panel, so the same chat history is available on any machine that opens that project.

  1. Export / Import Agent history

Allow exporting the list (and optionally the content) of Agent chats to a file, and importing it on another machine—e.g. cloud backup or “one-click import” of chat history—so we can migrate or restore our conversations across devices.

This would make multi-machine and backup workflows much easier. Thank you.:blush:

Would love this. It would save me the time of having to export conversation, upload, then download on the other computer and feed to the agent.

You don’t even need this.
If you have a single source of truth, which is your documentation folder about the project, your skill set in the project, and a clear git history, then you don’t need to sync the chat history, because:

  • if many members are working on a project, the chat history could be messy and make the project more hallucinative.
  • If your chat session is not completed and needs to be synced into other devices, then it may be too complex to do a task; just break it down, complete it in minutes, then commit.

I needed this too and spent the past week working on a fork of Cursor Chat Transfer:

It’s called Cursor Chat Transit. You export selected chats to a ZIP, import it into another workspace, then quit and reopen Cursor. The imported chats show up in Cursor’s chat list.

I’ve tested importing chats from two separate archives and could continue the conversations afterward. Importing the same unchanged archive again doesn’t add another copy.

A lot of the work went into large exports and problems with importing chat resources. It uses Cursor’s internal storage format, so I can’t guarantee every old chat will work, but it’s working for the conversations I needed to move.

In my case, I had to ask an agent to re-attach my chat history to a folder because I had no means to simply move or browse any of my previous chats after opening a folder for the first time.

This would be a very helpful feature!
