System data fills up when using Cursor on Mac

I found my System Data filled up when using Cursor on my Mac.

Sam at the Cursor help desk promptly replied and gave me this suggestions

You can clear Cursor’s app data and prevent storage buildup by running these commands in Terminal:

sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor
rm -f ~/.cursor.json

This will clear Cursor’s cached data and free up your system storage. After running these commands, you can restart Cursor and it should work without filling up your storage.

and when that did not work

Hi Michael,

Try these additional steps to clear the system data:

  1. Completely quit Cursor
  2. Also remove this folder:
rm -rf ~/.cursor/
  1. Restart your Mac

But it is still has 81GB of data in it. I took it into the Apple shop to see if they could help - they suggested I can only erase all contents and reset.

Before I did that I wonder if anyone else has experienced this and has a solution. Thanks.

I experienced the same issue. It used 150GB of disk space and was only luck that I caught it before some serious issues occured. I had less that 1GB of free space when I caught it. I machine restart in safe mode fixed the problem for me. I now monitor usage every few minutes when using the app.

Also having this issue! It takes up anywhere from 20-50 GB. Pretty nuts!
