Same happening since this morning.

Auto is free only if you have an annual subscription purchased before September 15, 2025.

Please just tell me when I can continue using Auto once hitting this brick wall; Or perhaps switch to a model I still have tokens on? Or maybe even calculate what plan I should be on based on my usage patterns? Surely that isn’t that hard, I’d build you an MVP but I’m out of tokens.

Hey there.

Auto is billed at competitive token rates for all users, including those who subscribed before September 15th. The change took effect at each user’s next billing renewal after that date.

At your next billing renewal after September 15, Auto will contribute to your included monthly usage at competitive token rates. From December 2023 to June 2025, Auto was priced at the same cost as other premium models. Since June 2025, Auto has been unlimited for individuals and priced at the same cost as other premium models for teams. We’ve heavily invested in the quality and overall performance of Auto.

To continue using Cursor, you can enable on-demand usage, or upgrade your plan.

Sorry @collin but this part says its unlimited, if its unlimited why we started hitting a limit wall since we are subscribing some plan as a individual?

This supercedes that.

@collin from your personal perspective is it worth to subscribe for the 200$ tier? My usage depends a lot of how much free time I have, my company does not allow me to use cursor yet, they pay for copilot. For some months I’ve been using auto mode since it has been very consistent on my workflow, even better than using some specific models sometimes. On my current 60$ plan I am reaching limits in 10 days sometimes.

On my end, my monthly renewal occurred more than once after September 15 and I still was using Auto for free, so your information is wrong about Auto consuming monthly usage after any renewal past September 15.

Once again, Cursor makes horrible marketing decisions that you will soon regret.
I personnally was able to forgive a few times, but that’s too much for me. I’ll get more value somewhere else.

I can confirm that, up to last week Auto was not accounting as usage.

Something that I was only told after countless emails with the company is that in this latest cycle of billing (They say any account renewed after September 15 2025, but that isn’t true…since I started with Cursor on September 21st 2025 so nothing should have changed for me if this was the case) the changed it where instead of ‘request-based’ pricing (pro was 500 request per month) they changed it to ‘API-based’ pricing.

They keep referencing an ‘article’ from August, “Sept 15th change.” First of all, this massive change to how things worked, and only got a paragraph that (at least for me) made it seem like I SHOULD be using auto mode, and they were REDUCING the rate at which tokens were used. No, it was going from what others described as Auto being free to highly restrictive pricing that I got 3 days before running out. Again, there was no indication that this change would occur after this billing cycle, since, by all accounts, I should NEVER have been on the previous plan styling. Below is the email that finally described the change.

I wouldn’t mind paying more. I liked the service being provided. But this change means that even if I were paying for pro+ or some arbitrary $100 (about what I can pay each month for this service), I wouldn’t make it 15-20 days. At this point, it has become prohibitively expensive. I won’t be renewing unless Cursor and the consumer can meet more in the middle.

I use Composer 1 only in last 24h,and I think the usage data still “Auto“.

Auto mode is not fully free to use any anymore… This is so bad, i just quit cursor because is locked my at 10 days before renewal

I don’t think it should be fully free, but it’s so prohibitively expensive right now.
