I had no choice but to try Trae. As a result, for the same job and the same 4.0 model, Cursor still met my needs excellently.
I still can’t do without Cursor.
I will still support Cursor.
I hope everyone can look at this issue rationally. This should not be Cursor targeting us Chinese.
It should be the upstream interface or China’s relevant policies and regulations that restrict some businesses.
Just like when I make games, our country requires a version number. As an independent developer, I have no choice but to remove China from more than 170 countries in order not to violate the regulations.
Adopt a strategy of avoiding what you can’t afford to offend.
Good riddance to all the Chinese Hackers using Cursor !!
Past and present Intellectual Property theft has consequencs …
RIP Nortel
There are indeed many people around me who like to get things for free.
But I am willing to support things that I think are valuable. I pay for all games and AI products.
I spend $200 a month on Cursor.
If what you hate is hackers, adding the prefix of China is really narrow-minded and ignorant.
You, ugly guy. In fact Chinese user pay it normally. Some cheater from US just sell illegal account to Chinese users. Bcoz it’s not easy to pay for chinese users.
i encountered the same problem
I was going to renew my Cursor subscription but I was just checking and found out that there is some kind of region restrictions while using Claude 4. Is it really region restricted as I don’t want to waste my time with Auto or others.
Error: “Model Not Available
This model provider doesn’t serve your region. Visit Cursor – Regions for more information.”
In response to the demands of the upstream API provider, I believe that directly prohibiting Chinese users from accessing advanced models is the most erroneous decision. There are many other ways for you to achieve a balance without resorting to such a self-destructive approach. It seems that your leadership does not understand how to avoid problems while ensuring interests.
For instance, you could stop the Alipay payment method in China, prohibit the use of Chinese email addresses for account registration, and block Chinese access to the website. This would demonstrate your stance to upstream API providers without completely alienating your Chinese users. Moreover, it would not cause any legal issues since you are not remaining indifferent.
But now, such a handling method, completely prohibiting Chinese users from using it, is just to avoid offending the upstream service provider, and is cutting off its own financial resources. It’s really ridiculous. You should know that China is the largest technology power in the world, with hundreds of millions of people engaged in software development. Many countries and many companies are trying to please China to earn huge profits. But what you are doing is actually helping other brands rise.
Wake up, cursor!
Your review is great, objective and correct.
A few days ago, I posted that as an ULTRA user, I’m preparing to leave Cursor. The $200 fee isn’t the issue — it’s still far cheaper than hiring a real coding assistant. Theoretically, it’s worth it.
And to be fair, it worked decently well — until a week ago, when regional restrictions cut off my access. In fact, these restrictions against Chinese users didn’t originate from Cursor itself, but from upstream providers like Claude and OpenAI. The tech suppression against China has always been there, and it comes from higher levels. Cursor simply didn’t strictly enforce it before — but now, probably due to pressure from providers or governments, it’s enforcing it more rigidly.
To be honest, domestic restrictions in China have never prevented us from connecting with the world. Likewise, restrictions from the U.S. or other countries are equally meaningless — as long as there’s a thirst for technology and the future, no one can stop our steps.
So yes, AI-assisted programming is a must, and Claude is essential, regardless of whether it’s restricted. The only question is — do we access it through Cursor, or not?
Recently, I switched to Claude Code and even built a simple VSCode plugin. The experience is almost identical to Cursor. The difference is — I can see exactly how many tokens I used, how many requests I made, and how much I spent. Last month, my Ultra subscription cost $200. They advertise “20X usage,” but I have no idea where it all went — it burned out in just half a month. Before upgrading to Ultra, I used the pay-as-you-go plan, and even while being cautious, it still reached around $200 — that’s why I decided to upgrade. With 20X usage, I expected to use freely. But no — burned out in half a month, and even overspent by $70 before the region lock kicked in.
Now compare that to Claude directly — same price, way better experience. And honestly, I suspect something fishy. Just a guess: when I used Claude via Cursor heavily, it started becoming slower, dumber, and filled with nonsense replies. Could it be that they were told to maximize our token usage? That would be pretty disgusting. Directly using Claude Code — none of that happens.
So, brothers — stop hesitating. Just switch.
Just clicked the refund button.
Why is Claude 4 not available in China?
Are you giving up on Chinese users?
Anthropic models never legally available to China. Not since 2021. Chinese have been able to use it by pass-through proxies who provide the LLM through a service because of relaxed enforcement.
So Cursor was a convenient loophole, they were forced to close bc of pressure from Anthropic, who received pressure from Gov’t
These models in my cursor are no longer displayed.
如果你讨厌的是黑客,那么加上“中国”这个前缀真是心胸狭窄,又无知。
Oh, what an arrogant and discriminatory reply. I am also an annual member, and before I saw this post, I hadn’t even requested a refund. I was using a VPN to access Cursor, thinking your company would offer a solution. But your response, “Please comment in English as this is for all to read,” is very disappointing.
@user358 thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear you have an issue with the Forum Rules.
This is a convention that allows everyone from across the world to participate and read topics in the same forum.
Note that I did assist many by translating their posts with AI to English, and there is no bias on any users language or discrimination as you wrongly insinuate
