Thanks to the Cursor Team for the Current Pricing Plan
I’m aware that the project offers updated overlimits, but I was still anxious about burning through my usage quota in just five days. I initially planned to write this message once my API spending doubled the paid package, but, if what the IDE is showing is accurate, I might even reach 3x the plan limit before my next payment kicks in.
I’ve already had experience working with a AI-orchestration service, which also magically provide APIs much cheaper than the providers. I’m glad the rocky phase is over and that you’re managing to deliver such an outstanding service
Let’s be real, Cursor is just a UI wrapper for existing APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.), with a heavy markup. The $60 “included usage” isn’t a gift, it’s baked into their pricing. Once you hit quota, you’re burning tokens fast, often without knowing which model Auto picked. It’s a sleek interface, but an expensive middleman.
■■■■ first they made us Cursor Addicted to be able to code 3-5 times as much as manually, then they silently change the rate limits, finally disabling the rate limit in total leaving us with the default model …
I hate to say it but most likely going for PRO PLUS because of that … even as I am absolutely disappointed by this untransparent price policy.
But at the moment I don’t any other code editor on the level of Cursor
I moved this morning to Claude Code integrated with Windsurf, as I couldn’t get it to work with Cursor.
To say, I love it is not enough. Was working on a project most of the day, never got rate limited on their cheapest plan. Cursor allowed me today one request…
Very happy I cancelled Cursor…
A 20% markup on already overpriced APIs isn’t a win. And “free Auto” just means fallbacks to o4-mini or cached junk. That +55% stat? That’s them valuing usage at retail rates they control. It’s marketing, not math.
Things are getting expensive, no doubt. Companies are shifting to usage-based billing because it’s more profitable. I’m not even against it, given how crazy API prices are. That $20 isn’t buying the models, it’s leasing the app wrapped around them. Billing is now daily, not monthly, and $1,000 plans? They’re coming. They’re just warming you up.
I’m honestly amazed at how generous Google is in trying to claw out their market share. Gemini 2.5 Pro is currently better than Claude and o3, and it’s also cheaper than both. I think we should wait for Gemini 3.0 — it might end up being a sort of price anchor that keeps others from jacking up API costs too much. Plus, that new Kimi K2 just came out and it’s supposed to be pretty cheap too.
While I appreciate the improvements and the effort from the Cursor team, I have to agree that the current pricing is too high for what is offered. With similar features now available in Claude Code and GitHub Copilot at a lower cost, Cursor is becoming less attractive for daily use. The value just isn’t there anymore compared to these alternatives, especially when they provide generous quotas and powerful integrations.
Also, the fact that Cursor does not clearly specify the token usage limits is a big drawback. This lack of transparency makes it difficult to manage usage and avoid unexpected costs. I hope the team will reconsider the pricing or provide more unique features—and most importantly, clearly communicate the actual usage limits to users.
That sounds really interesting! I’ve been considering trying Claude Code with Windsurf myself, but I’m not sure how to set it up. Could you please share how you got it working, or if you have any tips or a guide to follow? I’d love to hear about your experience and any recommendations you have.
