I keep getting Unable to reach the model provider when trying to connect to Claude. I’ve tried updating the app, closing and re-opening it, disabling my mcp tools… nothing works. Please can someone help me find a solution? This has been ongoing for one week now, with 0 success of reaching Claude in the last week.

Steps to Reproduce

Select Clause Sonnet 4.5 or Opus 4.1 and I get the message “Unable to reach model provider”

Expected Behavior

To be able to use Claude’s models in Cursor

Hey, thanks for the report. Let’s run some diagnostics to find the cause:

  1. Network diagnostics:
  • Open Cursor → Settings → Network → Run Diagnostics
  • Share the results here
  1. Disable HTTP/2:
  • Press CMD + , to open Settings
  • Search “HTTP/2”
  • Enable “Disable HTTP/2”
  • Restart Cursor and test again
  1. Extra details:
  • Are you on a VPN or corporate network?
  • Any firewall/antivirus running?
  • Does this happen in a brand‑new chat or only existing ones?
  • Can you share a request ID? (Chat menu → Copy Request ID)
