Unable to use custom API key after 0.46.3 update

When attempting to use my custom GPT-4o API for a simple chat in the right panel, I keep encountering the following error message:

“Composer relies on custom models that require a Pro or Business subscription. Please disable API keys or use a Pro or Business subscription.”

Despite trying to disable anything related to Composer, the issue persists.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Set up a custom GPT-4o API with a token in the cursor settings.
  2. Open the right panel and attempt to initiate a chat using the API.
  3. The error message appears, preventing the chat from functioning.

Expected Behavior:
The chat should work using my custom GPT-4o API without requiring a Pro or Business subscription (or provide clearer instructions if a subscription is indeed required).

Important: I’m currently in the 2 weeks trial.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

  • Disabled any Composer-related settings.
  • Checked API key configurations.
  • Restarted the environment to ensure changes took effect.

Additional Context:

  • The problem appeared just after the new released update 0.46.3.

Was just creating the same. Ever since the UIs were merged its impossible to use free tier with api key. I hope this isnt a marketing move to push pro subscription…

Same issue here. Can’t use any model with my own API key. I tried both Anthropic and OpenAI models. From the bug reports on here, it feels like this happens with every release.

Same problem. Their downloads page still links to the previous version which still works.

Hey, sorry about this, we’ve just deployed a fix that should allow API keys to work in Ask mode for all users (including free tier) and also in Agent mode for Pro and Business users!
