Just use o4-mini lol. It is one of the smartest models and even cheaper than auto now
Subscription cancelled - done.
I paid for the Pro plan, used it for 2 hours, hit my limit. That’s it. 2 weeks passed, GPT-5 model appeared, I used it several times, the subscription is ending. I’m not ready to pay more for 2 hours, I’d rather subscribe to other services (I’m not going to advertise them).
Bye Cursor.
I’m doing such a thing (but for yearly subscription) and they performed only a prorated refund… I’m in the EU and mentioned this.
Btw for now I’m using Windsurf for a few months, it has more features (plan mode, memories etc.) and flat pricing (15$/500 credits). One Sonnet 3.7 Thinking request = 1.25 credits. [MOD - removed advertisement]
They have no choice. Like other AI code editors they are running at a substantial loss, have no path to profitability and cannot go for an IPO. When the bubble pops, Cursor will be one of the first to go.
Cursor are between a rock and a hard place. They grew massively by heavily subsidising LLM calls, now they are forced by simple economics to ■■■■ off their customer base as their bills are due. Anthropic can charge whatever they want and Cursor now has to pass this onto customers. Without that cheap access, why will anyone stick with Cursor?
Naufal is truly impressive.
LOL

Yes, but are you willing to believe that they won’t change their mind on September 16 2025?

Customer: What else is infinite? Tell me.
Cursor: The changes in our pricing strategy are infinite.
according to this article:
The auto mode will also start charging. The official said that they have invested a lot of energy and resources in the auto mode. But, what other reasons are there to use the auto mode?
- It is charged according to the quantity. so it can’t be considered ‘unlimited’
- It’s not transparent. We don’t know what model the auto mode uses
- It’s not the cheapest either
Based on the above reasons, I think I have no reason to use the auto mode. I’d rather use a specific model because I can know exactly what it is.
Overall, the only real criticisms I have come down to two points: the lack of clarity in some messages—where things have to be guessed instead of stated outright—and the relatively fast usage limit compared to what other services like ChatGPT offer (e.g., €30 = unlimited chats). But that’s probably not entirely under their control, since it’s tied to the quality they aim to deliver and the API pricing.
That said, the way some people here behave is just awful—far worse than the occasional unclear messages from the Cursor team. Threats like “I want unlimited access or I’ll cancel my subscription” and constant complaining about changes—when Cursor AI is continuously making adjustments to serve users as best they can at any given time—are just unreasonable. The AI world is dynamic, and things are bound to look the way they do.
Cursor AI offered something for free temporarily, then had to limit it because they couldn’t keep it free forever—and instead of being glad for the freebie, some people immediately started rebelling.
And to get to the main point—AI agents still make a huge mess, especially when implementing large-scale solutions. The tab model they offer without limits is still one of the best available today.
“Without that cheap access, why will anyone stick with AI?” Cursor’s $16/mo + 20% upcharge is probably not the deal breaker in your scenario, esp if we can use our own API keys. It’s the model providers cost that is the issue not Cursor it would seem.
Community: Gets rug pulled by Cursor (recent price change)
Cursor: “It’s ok guys, our auto model that barely works well is free! You can always use that!”
Community: Calms down a little, gets used to the new pricing model (still hesitant)
Cursor: “Hehe” Rug pulls again, no more free auto"
Totally unhappy with Cursor’s behaviour. Honestly feels like I’ve been tricked. Every update it’s like dealing with kids, not a serious company. Super disappointed
Try Kiro guys. I was the beta user and it was way better than cursor. And with all this ambiguity with pricing i have cancelled my subscription now. There certainly are other tools in the market. Cursor just wants to mint money from their huge email list now
I meet the same situation, without historical comparison data, how can I predict my budget for the team? Can Cursor generate a comparison cost report based on customer’s previously team cost?
