Using Cursor AI with Power BI Desktop – Is It Possible?

Hi all,

I’m exploring whether Cursor AI can be used effectively in Power BI report development.

I understand that .pbix files can’t be opened or edited directly in Cursor, but it can help with tasks like:

  • Writing DAX/M code

I also came across the idea of Model Context Protocol (MCP) being used in some AI tooling — is there any way to simulate this with Cursor ?

Has anyone tried integrating AI tools like Cursor into their Power BI ?

would really need to use TMDL / C# scripting with the .pbip file to do something like this. It might be good for large projects or complicated models, but using Copilot in PBI Desktop / Service would be much better with the Microsoft integration.
