Hey, thanks for the report. This is a known behavior in v2.3. The navigation buttons only show in Editor mode, not in Agent mode.

Try switching to the Editor view using Cmd + E (Mac) or Ctrl + E (Windows/Linux).

Also make sure Command Center is enabled in settings:

  • Open Settings with Ctrl + ,
  • Search for “Command Center”
  • Turn it on

This is explained in more detail here: Cursor 2.3: Command Center no longer appears in the top bar, preventing forward/back navigation buttons (regression from 2.2)

Let me know if that helps.

thank you - that helped!

Hello,

This is only a partial solve, the issue is likely larger than this.
While being in editor mode, the forward and backward buttons only appears if the agent section is placed on the left of the screen but absent if the agent section is on the right.

Thanks for the clarification. I can confirm this is a bug. The navigation buttons should appear regardless of where the Agent panel is placed.

The same issue was reported here: Navigation controls disappearing from toolbar

As a temporary workaround, please move the Agent panel to the left, like in your second screenshot.

I’ll pass this to the engineers so they can fix it.
