There is no concrete information of models available in auto:
https://cursor.com/docs/account/pricing#auto
“Auto allows Cursor to select the premium model best fit for the immediate task and with the highest reliability based on current demand”
There have been many requests on the forum to allow seeing which model was selected. Nothing really came out of it. Sad to see. Hope this gets some attention.
cursor should allow me to block GROK. i dont want it.
Hey, thanks for the question. We don’t share the specific list of models used in Auto mode. Officially: “Auto allows Cursor to select the premium model best fit for the immediate task and with the highest reliability based on current demand” - docs here: Pricing | Cursor Docs
Right now, there’s no way to block specific models (like Grok) in Auto mode. This is a common request, here’s the main thread about Auto transparency: Transparency on "auto" model selection
If you want to avoid Grok, the only option right now is to manually pick a specific model instead of Auto. This is a known issue, and the team is working on better access control for models in Auto mode.
This topic would be about to close 3 months after the last reply. Do you have any updates on the situation?
Hi, guys!
I’ve been using Cursor’s Auto mode, and the official docs only say it “automatically selects the best model for the task” without listing which models are included.
I have two questions:
Which models does Auto mode actually use? Does it include Claude, GPT, Gemini, and/or Grok?
Is there any way to exclude or block Grok from Auto mode? I only want Claude/GPT in Auto and would prefer not to use Grok at all.
From what I’ve read, Auto mode doesn’t show which model is being used per request, and there’s no way to blacklist specific models. If that’s true, I’ll have to switch to manual selection permanently.
Would love to hear your real-world observations. Thanks!
Hey, this is basically the same question we covered earlier in the thread, so I’ll share an updated status here for @Leland_Hepworth too.
We don’t share the exact list of models used in Auto mode. Officially, Auto picks a model by balancing intelligence, cost efficiency, and reliability. Docs: Models & Pricing | Cursor Docs. So I can’t confirm by name whether it includes Claude, GPT, Gemini, or Grok.
There’s currently no way to exclude or block a specific model, including Grok, inside Auto mode. If you want full control over which model answers, the only option right now is to pick a model manually instead of Auto.
This is a common request. The main thread about Auto transparency is here: Transparency on "auto" model selection. Feel free to add a vote or comment there.
Quick update: I don’t have a specific timeline or a confirmed feature for blocking models in Auto right now. If something changes, I’ll post an update in the thread.
