WSL extension does nothing

I am trying to connect cursor to my WSL2 session. I have installed cursor in Windows 11 , and when clicking on the connect button, it brings up a list of connections. I navigate to “WSL” , select it and now I get a message that an extension is being installed and then just nothing - no error message, nothing shows up in extension and of course, no WSL2 terminal.

I tried this How to Install Any VSCode Extension, but notably , the WSL extenion (which works in code just fine) has no download link.

It does not seem to show up in the cursor extensions list and the WSL extensions that are visible there merely seem to be to open a file in the wsl filesystem.
