“Your conversation is too long” error – unable to work properly

Hi Cursor team and community,

I usually don’t post on forums or share feedback on services, but this issue is important and quite frustrating, so I felt I had to speak up.

About two weeks ago, I subscribed to Cursor AI Pro with high hopes — and at first, the experience was great. Cursor worked really well and was genuinely helpful with my coding tasks. However, for the past few days, I’ve been running into a serious issue.

I keep getting the following error:

“Your conversation is too long. Please try creating a new conversation or shortening your messages.”

The strange part is that this happens even when I send short messages, and even in completely new chats. It’s been like this for about three days now, and it’s stopping me from being able to code or use the tool effectively — despite having a Pro subscription.

I really want to keep using Cursor, because it’s an amazing tool when it works. But right now, I feel blocked and disappointed, which is not what I expected from a paid subscription.

My questions:

• Is this a known issue?

• Are there any temporary workarounds or fixes?

• Should I consider downgrading my version? If so, which version would you recommend?

Looking forward to your response. I really hope this can be resolved soon. Thanks in advance for your support!

Best regards,

Hey, this problem usually occurs when your chat becomes too large. If it happens in a new chat, the issue might be related to MCP servers. Also, let me know which version of Cursor you are using. We’ve improved the MCP servers’ performance in version 0.48.

The chat always ends quickly, even when I type just one or two sentences. I’m using a Mac, and my Cursor version is 0.47.9.

But 0.48 is not on the release version

Hey, yes, we plan to roll it out for everyone soon. However, if you’d like to access it right now, you can enable early access in the Cursor settings.

I also just ran into this issue. The first time it said it was too long I was a bit skeptical because it wasn’t as long as when I usually get that message. So I started a new conversation (with the summary of the previous). And I sent 1 prompt and it said the conversation was too long and wouldn’t let me send another prompt. Maybe the summary was so long it made the new conversation too long? But again the first one wasn’t that long.
