3.20.21 Windows Glass: Projects AgentPanel/EditorPanel UriError in _createBackgroundComposerUri

Describe the Bug

On Windows Glass, opening a Cursor Project crashes both the agent pane and the notes/editor pane with “Something went wrong”. Reload does not recover. File > Open Folder for the same repo still works. This Project also has a failed Cloud Agent build (“Build installation failure”). Copy Error is a UriError inside _createBackgroundComposerUri while Glass renders a background/cloud agent header.

Steps to Reproduce

Windows 11, Cursor 3.20.21, Glass layout.
Open the Agents/Projects window from the left nav (empty Desktop window, not File > Open Folder).
Open a Project. Mine is named Cosmic Odyssey. The linked repo already showed a Cloud Agent “Build installation failure”.
The Project chat pane and the notes/editor pane both show “Something went wrong” with Reload / Copy Error.
Click Reload on either pane. The same crash comes back immediately.
Open the same local folder with File > Open Folder. Local agent chat loads and Reload works there.

Expected Behavior

The Project coordinator and notes should load. A failed Cloud Agent build should not take down AgentPanel and EditorPanel. Reload should not keep calling _createBackgroundComposerUri with a Windows path that is not a valid URI (path must be empty or start with “/” when an authority is present).

This is a Cursor Project (cloud coordinator), not File > Open Folder. The Project has a failed Cloud Agent build (“Build installation failure”). Local folder chat in the same repo still works. Reload on the Project panes does not recover.

Hey @Jared_Hamm, thanks for the detailed report, and for including the stack.

You read it right: the Project panes are failing while Glass builds the header for the Project’s workers, because the workers that ran on your Windows PC (Remote Control) now report a Windows-style path that the Agents Window does not accept yet. That is on our side, not your setup, and it is not caused by the failed Cloud Agent build. I’ve flagged it to the team with your report attached.

There isn’t a good workaround inside the Agents Window right now, since Reload re-reads the same data. Until the fix lands, the same repo keeps working through File > Open Folder as you found!

Glass Projects broken on Mac. Opening any chat in Projects shows “AgentPanel failed to render”.

Error: [UriError] path must begin with “/” in _createBackgroundComposerUri

Tried reload, Clear Editor History, cache wipe, update 3.21.1 — nothing works.
Logs: “Failed to fetch loadable cloud subagent” + “Failed to refresh Project worker membership”

Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor (Glass layout, early access)
Go to Projects → Domingohub
Click any chat or New Chat
Panel shows “Something went wrong” / AgentPanel failed to render

Expected Behavior

Chat panel opens normally and I can send messages in Projects.

Steps to Reproduce

Just open Agents Window with a project selected. I was happily using Projects, but now this crash happens. I created another project, continued with that for a few mins, but then that too is now crashing. Last thing I remember asking the agent was to run a skill on my local laptop, but I know the other crashing agents had different instructions.

Expected Behavior

Shouldn’t crash with “Something went wrong”

Creating a new Cursor Project from the Agents window fails with an error. Retrying a second and third time also failed.

Later, the projects still show up in the Agents list as if they exist, but they remain in a working/loading state (UI shows “Preparing report”). Trying to delete the first two ghost projects also failed with an error.

This appears to be a Windows URI bug in the Agents/Projects (glass) UI. Local renderer logs show _createBackgroundComposerUri throwing:

[UriError]: If a URI contains an authority component, then the path component must either be empty or begin with a slash ("/") character

The same error also fails environment setup:

Steps to Reproduce

On Windows, open the Cursor Agents window.
Create a new Project (in my case named “Zineps”).
Creation fails with an error.
Retry create two more times. Both retries also fail with an error.
Later, open the Agents list / Projects sidebar. The failed projects now appear anyway.
Open one of them: it stays on “Preparing report” / still working instead of becoming a usable project.
Try to delete the first two projects in the list. Delete also fails with an error.

Expected Behavior

Creating a Project should succeed, or fail cleanly without leaving leftover entries.
Failed creates should not later appear in the Agents/Projects list as still-running projects.
A project that failed to finish setup should not stay stuck on “Preparing report”.
Deleting a failed/stuck project should succeed so the list can be cleaned up.

Describe the Bug

After i connect powershell using CLI, then i created a Projects from the Cursor IDE (Agents Window). Looks like the chat inside the Projects keep crashing that causing to Reload everytime the User Login image appear. When i try to Reload (CTRL + SHIFT + R) still happening after the account complete loaded. Seems like this bug only happened at the Projects folder not Repositories.

Steps to Reproduce

I press (CTRL + SHIFT + R) and open the folder Projects then wait the account loaded and bug that reload appear.

Expected Behavior

I can’t type anything inside the Projects folder

Describe the Bug

On Windows, Agents Window / GlassSidebar crashes when rendering Cloud Agent (bc-…) headers for private-worker agents.

Error:

[UriError]: If a URI contains an authority component, then the path component must either be empty or begin with a slash ("/") character

Shown as: GlassSidebar failed to render / AgentPanel failed to render.

Root cause: workbench.glass.main.js _createBackgroundComposerUri(bcId, workspaceRootPath) builds:

scheme=vscode-remote
authority=background-composer+<bcId>
path=<windows-drive-letter-path> ← Windows path WITHOUT leading /

Persisted private-worker agent metadata contains workspaceRootPath like a raw drive-letter path (example shape: e:\SomeFolder\project). This is NOT the SSH/terminal UriError; it is private-worker path fed into background-composer URI creation via _getOrCreateLoadableSubagentHeader → _updateAgentHeader.

Reappears after every Cursor update (client overwrite).

Steps to Reproduce

On Windows, connect a private worker for a drive-letter folder, e.g. E:\path\to\project (This PC Remote Control).
Open/create a Cloud Agent (bc-…) that uses that private worker, ideally with loadable subagents / Project disclosure.
Open Agents Window / Glass so sidebar loads agent headers.
Observe GlassSidebar/AgentPanel crash with UriError from _createBackgroundComposerUri.

Also reproduces after Cursor auto-update even if previously working with a local workaround.

Expected Behavior

Glass sidebar and AgentPanel should render Cloud Agent / private-worker headers normally on Windows. _createBackgroundComposerUri must normalize paths (replace backslashes with /, ensure leading /) or persist private-worker workspaceRootPath as /workspace instead of a raw Windows path.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the reports and for pasting the full errors, they pointed us straight at the cause.

The Project panes crashing with “Something went wrong” (the UriError when a Project’s agents ran on a Windows machine through Remote Control) has been fixed on our side, and the change is now live. There is no update to install for this one.

If a Project still shows the error, fully quit and reopen Cursor so the Agents Window refetches its agent list, then open the Project again.

Let me know if any of you still hit it after that.
