Feature request for product/service
Cursor IDE
Describe the request
Hey, I’ve started using Cursor IDE recently after many years being a skeptic when it comes to using AI for programming and I have to congratulate everyone involved in the result, even I can’t deny the obvious usefulness of this tool!
That being said, there’s a couple small suggestions when it comes to the UI that I’d love to see, I’m interested to see if other people share this feedback:
-
I’m quite sensitive to cost so it would be great to have somewhere in the chat tab an overview of the current pay-as-you-go limits usage. I’d love to use the AI agent in auto mode but GPT-5.2 thinking is just objectively better and much less likely to make mistakes. Right now, I’m manually logging into the website, sometimes a couple of times a day to check my limits so that’s a needless friction imo.
-
I would love to have two “Enter” buttons bound to two separate keyboard buttons: one bound to submitting the message to a GPT-5.2 model and another one for submitting the message to an auto model: right now I need to manually switch back and forth between models via multiple nested clicks. I think having two easy actions for submitting either to the “think carefully” model vs. the “just think real quick” model would help both users and the company. For the users it means less friction and for the company I think that would make people less likely to burn through their included limits by sending messages to the more expensive model due to laziness of having to manually switch the models.
-
Another button I’d love to have would be the “Max“ mode toggle. Again, it’s a matter of cost, I don’t want to run in Max mode more than strictly necessary but for complex tasks I think it helps. So reducing friction there as well to allow the programmer to switch between model configurations in a single click I think would improve both the user experience as well as stem people’s overuse of the Max mode due to laziness / forgetfulness.
-
More of an observation than a feature request: I am almost never switching away from the model’s “Agent” mode into “Ask” or “Plan” modes, despite explicitly requesting the Agent to do these things, and these things only… again, it’s a matter of friction, I’m too lazy to just mouse over then click twice to switch modes… do with that information whatever you wish.
That’s all, I’m curious to see if anyone else shares these thoughts!
Thank you team and keep up the good work!
