ACP: let the agent or client set the session title (session/setTitle or a rename tool)

,

Feature request for product/service

Cursor CLI

Describe the request

When Zed runs the Cursor CLI over ACP (agent acp), the CLI names each session once from the first user message. It sends that name as a session_info_update with a title and never changes it.
Long agent workflows started with a slash command all get the same title. The thread list then can’t tell them apart. The CLI has /rename in the terminal interface, but nothing does the same over ACP.

Requests (either one solves it):
Support the ACP session/setTitle request (agent-client-protocol#1199) and answer it with session_info_update, so clients like Zed can rename threads.
Give the agent a rename-session tool, or let a hook return a title like Claude Code’s sessionTitle in UserPromptSubmit or sessionStart.

Environment: Cursor CLI 2026.10.14-0f9edde, Zed as the ACP client.
