Steps to Reproduce

Open Cursor on macOS.
Start an Agent chat (model: Gemini 3.8 Flash).
Submit a prompt.
The request fails before any assistant response is streamed.

Hey @alexdai039, thanks for the report and the request ID!

What’s happening: the Gemini 3.8 Flash response was cut off partway through your agent run, and the automatic retry that follows was rejected by the provider. You’re right that the “temporary, try again” message is misleading there, since retrying the same turn will keep failing. I’ve flagged this to the team.

In the meantime, when you see this error, send a short new message in the same chat (for example “continue”) instead of retrying. That lets the agent pick up where it stopped. If it keeps happening on long runs, switching that chat to another model should avoid it until this is fixed.
